Our learning journey follows South African CAPS geography topics, using South African, African and worldwide examples. All seven grade paths offer playable topic practice.

Grade 4 12 missions available: Settlements, symbols, keys, directions, grids, routes, South African provinces and oceans, food and farming, and water.
Grade 5 8 missions available: Africa map skills, South African landforms, weather, climate, vegetation, minerals and mining.
Grade 6 12 missions available: World map skills, latitude and longitude, scale, trade, climate, vegetation, population and settlement location.
Grade 7 12 missions available: Local maps and scale, earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, population change, natural resources and conservation.
Grade 8 12 missions available: Maps and globes, climate regions, settlements, transport and trade.
Grade 9 12 missions available: Topographic and orthophoto maps, development, surface processes, resource use and sustainability.
Grade 10 16 missions available: Coordinates and scale, bearings, contours and cross-sections, GIS and remote sensing, atmosphere, geomorphology, population and water resources.

These original learning activities support practice. The current release provides practice across the four topic areas in each of Grades 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10; it is not a complete school course or an official assessment.

Revision and learning progress

Revision sets revisit up to six tasks you have tried. Some include alternate values or map targets. Revision records your practice; replay campaign missions to improve Atlas XP and stars.

Your atlas journal

Atlas XP records your best result for each task, so replaying improves mastery without farming points. 100 XP: independent answer. 70 XP: answer with a hint. 50 XP: answer after a mistake.

Three stars: no mistakes or hints. Two stars: at most two mistakes. One star: another completed expedition.

Controls and map notes

Tap squares or country outlines. Drag to pan; pinch or use + / − to zoom. On a keyboard, Tab to controls; Enter or Space activates them. Within the town grid, arrow keys move between squares. On the world map, arrows pan and Enter selects the centre. Find offers a searchable country list.

Coordinate tasks offer labelled latitude and longitude controls as well as tap previews. The kilometre plan and comparison-layer profiles are fictional practice data, not real station measurements. Its line scale zooms with the plan. The street planner checks open links and accepts alternative routes within the stated limit. Its graph uses metres; unsubmitted routes can be edited freely. Degrees-and-minutes coordinates use separate hemisphere controls; their world marker is approximate. Ratio-scale tasks supply paper measurements: do not measure screen centimetres. The seasonal model is schematic and climate graphs have separate temperature/rainfall panels with matching tables. Grade 9 uses a separate fictional metric contour plan and a public-domain historical USGS orthoimage. The plan supports straight-distance measurement; the web image has no ground ruler. Image publication date is not its capture date. Grade 10 adds exact seconds entry, free compass/GIS/profile inspection and simplified age-sex/weather diagrams with matching tables. The X–Z profile uses the fictional hill’s metric coordinates; its vertical display scale is exaggerated. Declination and practice GIS sites are invented. Earth diagrams are schematic. Graphs include matching tables; source links identify historical cases and estimates. Community activities use original fictional town plans and labelled practice evidence. The landform cross-section is schematic and not to scale. Provincial views use Natural Earth 1:10m boundaries; the mainland view excludes distant islands from its viewport, while the Prince Edward Islands view makes them accessible. Coloured provinces use abbreviations explained in Map key. The world atlas uses Natural Earth overview boundaries. They show countries and territories, including disputed areas, and are not a count of sovereign states. Oceania is a region containing Australia and Pacific islands. The overview is not an equal-distance or equal-area map.

Tried counts tasks with a recorded answer or hint. On own counts your best independent campaign answers. Focus uses recent mistakes, hints and supported answers; an independent revision answer clears that task from focus. Campaign XP and unlocks stay separate.
